Belligerent Nature

Through the series of Belligerent Nature, the vision for presenting this body of work is that nature can be divided into two fragments: human nature and earthly nature. Human nature is achieved in a chaotic way - war. Earthly nature is represented in a beautiful way - landscapes and flowers. In this exhibition, I intend to convey that these two fragments of nature will always intersect with each other throughout the period of a person’s lifetime. Earthly nature at all times surrounds and is present around human nature and vice versa. This connects to the audience because even when humans are having conflicts with each other, the earthly nature around them continues to stay the same.

The cycle of death and rebirth. The death of a person who has been betrayed and was seeking vengeance during the war, which is shown from the side of the sleeves that is torn. The arrangement of flowers that uses rose to shape a fetus with a small heart in the middle. An intended strings at the end of the flowers uncut that resembles the cord of a newborn. The flowers present are cherry and plum blossoms, black rose, and daffodils. Developing new skills of sewing fabrics and crocheting yarns.

Red Blossom

190 x 100 cm | Oil on Canvas | February - March 2023

Continuing from the "Samsara" piece, this painting shows how the person who has died but now reborn, has accepted and bid his bitter past a farewell. It intends to find the closure to his hatred past end a chapter on a good note. This is my interpretation of what a red rose is. This painting is also a development of my blending and shading skills through the use of layer over layer technique to create a detailed shape of flowers.

Fragile Past

100 x 150 cm | Yarn on Canvas | February - March 2023

This piece reflects a person who's had a troubling past and is now fragile. He/she is depicted as a flower that's innocent as they trap themselves inside a fragile bubble that could pop anytime. Though they are trying to move on from the past, they still find trouble in trying to see the better present and future that is part of life. This could be seen from the background where comfort and chaos awaits for him/her through colorful flower crochet and stippling technique but with yarn.
